Then and Now: Barney Motor Car Company 17th and 6th

by Roger on Nov.22, 2014, under Then and Now

Steve Writes:
Brick’s Gulf Station and Barney Motor Car Corp. were on the corner of 17th Street and Sixth Avenue. The 4 story building with the Barney sign painted on it is still there (Liquor sign) and the dome, just visible above it sits atop St. Francis Xavier Church on 16th Street. The most intriguing sign, however, is the “BARNEY/TUCKER” sign on the one-story showroom facing 6th Avenue. Unfortunately an inconsiderate pedestrian is blocking the view of the car poking its nose toward the sidewalk. Was it a Tucker? Will we ever know? I like the 1948 view better – look at all them Buicks!! Cheers, Steve

LCCI Empire Region Receives an All Star Award From LIGLFF

by Roger on Nov.20, 2014, under Club News

Bill Writes:
Recently, Empire Car Club was the recipient of the prestigious All Star Award at the 17th Annual Long Island Gay and Lesbian Film Festival (LIGLFF).

Each year, the LIGLFF organization bestows this honor upon a Long Island community group that continuously supports awareness and acceptance of the LGBT community and has devoted time and experience to the success of the Long Island Gay & Lesbian Film Festival throughout the year. In August of 2013 and 2014, Empire Car Club has served as co-sponsor of LIGLFF’s summer program, Men’s Shorts Movie Night.

Many of us have attended this fun evening where we display our classic cars outside Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington, LI – the host theater that sponsors all the LIGLFF programs. Such events allow us to give back to the community while providing exposure to moviegoers who may not be familiar with our organization and it has served as a clever way to recruit new club members. All of us within the membership of Empire Car Club are thrilled and honored to accept our very first Long Island LGBT community award.

Bill & Peter Report:
Empire Region hosted our annual autumn club event “Fall Foliage” during the weekend of October 17-19 in Upstate New York with the Nutmeg Region of Connecticut as our honored guests. Anyone who has visited the Catskill and Mid-Hudson regions in October can attest it is a picturesque part of the state at its “Fall Foliage” peak.

2014 Long Island Gay and Lesbian Film Festival November 7th-10th

by Roger on Nov.05, 2014, under Upcoming Event

It is with great pleasure to announce that the Empire Region has been chosen for the Long Island Gay and Lesbian Film Festival (LIGLFF) All-Star Award this year! This is a great honor in that there are many people/groups that participate with the LIGLFF during the year. In the last few years we have co-sponsored some of the “Out At The Movies” events, and had our cars on display in the front of the cinema. They have been very accommodating to us and even offered discounted tickets.

From LIGLFF: “The Long Island Film Festival would like The Empire Region to be their recipient of the All-Star award this year. The award is given to those persons or group that has generously donated their time to the Film Festival and help promote the whole Long Island LGBT Community”

We will be the Sunday Night Community Co-Sponsor of the 17th Annual Film Festival on Sunday November 9th and will be presented with our award at this event.

The movie will be “To Be Takei” at 8:30pm with a 7:45pm reception preceding the film.

All of you Star Trek fans you will want to see this film:
