2014 Garden City Easter Sunday Vintage Car Parade

by Roger on Apr.22, 2014, under Parade

The Empire Lambda Region attended the Garden City Easter Parade with 7 of our members in attendance. There was a tailgate breakfast with bagels and coffee that we enjoyed while our cars were lined up for the parade’s staging, which was an experience in and of itself as it was one interesting car after another, and you never knew what would be rolling into the staging lot next. Next to us was a real nice 1979 Pacer woody recently bought at Hershey.

There were an estimated 500 cars in the parade and many people were dressed in vintage clothing, Easter bonnets, and Easter bunny outfits.

The parade started promptly at 1pm and ran over two hours as the spectators cheered and a Dixieland band played along the route. Bunnies and chocolate were thrown from many of the cars to the kids during the parade. Even some “big kids” got some candy, though maybe at the expense of a few actual kids, who got knocked over as they were in the way. I will not provide the names to protect the guilty, YOU know who you are. :D

Chris’ mom was there with us as well, with her amazing Easter Bonnet which captured quite a bit of attention.

The Parade was a perfect activity to enjoy before heading to our Easter Sunday meals.

Yankee Chapter Invitational: Provincetown, MA 9/6-9 2012

by Roger on Oct.02, 2012, under Outing, Parade

The Yankee Chapter hosted their Invitational in Provincetown MA. We had several members from the Empire Region in attendance and what a great time we had!! A big congratulations to the Yankee Chapter for hosting a very well organized, fun and busy weekend!!

Thursday evening was a meet and greet for those who came early at the hotel.

Friday afternoon they organized an obstacle driving course at Herring Cove. This was a fun event where each car had to drive through an obstacle course, however the passenger had to steer the car, not the driver! Once you passed the hard part, or so we thought, the driver had to back up through another obstacle course while the passenger held a tray of food from a fast food drive up window without spilling it! All this was timed so each car competed against each other.

Friday evening we attended a cocktail party and taillight show at the hotel. The cocktail party was really nice with good eats!

Saturday we all meet at MacMillan Wharf to display our cars followed by our own parade down Commercial Street. The Wharf was closed off except for our cars and spectators were welcome to come and view the classics. A delicious box lunch was also provided while we enjoyed our car show. The parade down Commercial Street was lots of fun, spectators lined the streets as we drove, waved, honked our way down the route. After the parade we all met back at the hotel for ice cream and pool party.

Saturday evening was a fantastically well organized cocktail party and awards banquet at the hotel. The themed awards that were given out were fun and well-deserved by their respective winners.
