Then and Now: Barney Motor Car Company 17th and 6th

by Roger on Nov.22, 2014, under Then and Now

Steve Writes:
Brick’s Gulf Station and Barney Motor Car Corp. were on the corner of 17th Street and Sixth Avenue. The 4 story building with the Barney sign painted on it is still there (Liquor sign) and the dome, just visible above it sits atop St. Francis Xavier Church on 16th Street. The most intriguing sign, however, is the “BARNEY/TUCKER” sign on the one-story showroom facing 6th Avenue. Unfortunately an inconsiderate pedestrian is blocking the view of the car poking its nose toward the sidewalk. Was it a Tucker? Will we ever know? I like the 1948 view better – look at all them Buicks!! Cheers, Steve
