Flowerfield Car Show and Pizza May 2014

by Roger on Jun.06, 2014, under Outing

Peter Writes:
We had glorious weather at our event at Flowerfield Car Show on May 18th. The car show was very crowded, nice to finally see we are over the winter and the cars have come out. Most of us met at the car show and strolled around the many cars that were there and browsed the swap meet.

Afterwards we caravaned over to George’s house for an outdoor pizza party. As we drove up the long driveway the evil tree baby greeted us (I think she put a hoax on Tom and Joe’s 63 Pontiac as we had to jump start it before they left).

As usual, George arranged his many cars to be scattered all around the property for us to enjoy. He placed them in between the trees, on the great lawn, some in the garage, and others in back. It’s like going to a car show you never know what you are going to find or where you will find it.

We had a really good turn out for this event and everyone had a nice day just hanging out in George’s backyard over pizza. Thank you George and AJ for hosting!

Old Westbury Car Show May 2014

by Roger on Jun.03, 2014, under Outing

Peter writes:
I can sum up this day in one word ‘WOW’.

We had a record breaking attendance this year! Thanks to everyone who attended and a special thanks to those who drove a long distance to get there. Neil’s 66 Cadillac from Nyack, John & Kevin’s 87 Pontaic from NJ, Mike’s 98 Firebird from NYC, Jonathan from CT, and even “Betsy’ was there, Brian and Jo Ellen’s 39 Buick from Kingston NY.

Also a big thanks to Patrick for ordering and picking up the most delicious hero’s for lunch, not to mention George’s assistance in shopping with me for all the other luncheon items.

Now for the show. If you have never been to Old Westbury Gardens it is a definite must see. This years theme was Station Wagons. There were some awesome wagons there most of which you never ever see anywhere. A few things that stood out at the show: 60 Buick Texan wagon (a 59 is in the July issue of Hemmings Classic Car), late 60′s NY Telephone van (filled with boxes of phones, probably princess phones), 49 NY Telephone truck, several old fire trucks, a vintage 18 wheeler (without the trailer), Good Humor Truck (and it was functional they were selling ice cream), a Steamer, and lots and lots more to see.

As part of your admission you could visit the Mansion and Gardens and see how they lived back in the day.

With luck, and being an early bird, we were able to save spots so the majority of us could park together. This was great because we had a home base for the members. We set up tables and had the luncheon behind our cars. We spent the day roaming the field but like clock work everyone came back to the base at 12 Noon for Lunch, I guess the members do read my emails ;) .

It was a long day but definitely worth it. The weather could not have been planned better. George, AJ, Mike, and I stayed to the very end and left around 5pm. I can’t believe how fast the day went. I enjoyed everyone’s company and the members all had a really nice time together. This is what our club is all about – Cars and Socializing. We have a great membership and I look forward to our next event.

Rhinebeck Car Show May 2014

by Roger on Jun.03, 2014, under Outing

Peter Writes:
LCCI’s Nutmeg Chapter hosted the Rhinebeck Car Show on May 2nd to May 4th and the Empire Chapter joined the festivities.

Many of us arrived Friday afternoon and Nutmeg hosted a pizza party at the Golden Manor Motel Friday evening. We dined on pizza while catching up and admiring our cars. Ballots were handed out to nominate your favorite car in several categories. This was not to just judge the car itself but it matched the car to the owner too. Following the pizza party we drove to the Eveready Diner for coffee and sweets.

Saturday we headed to the swap meet for the day. There was also a group that headed over to the junk yard nearby to browse and pick up some parts that were needed.

Saturday evening we met at Cappola’s for cocktails and dinner. They had a great buffet with lots to eat. Many prizes were given out and the results of the Friday night ballots were announced. Two of Empire members won a prize from the ballots; “Spoiled Rotten” won by Chris N and his 75 Buick and “Too Hot To Handle” won by Mike W and his 98 Firebird. What a good match!

BBQ at Larry’s House in Bay Shore- 5/19/13

by Roger on Jun.07, 2013, under Outing

On Sunday May 19th the car show we had panned on attending was rained-out, but nonetheless we held the BBQ at Larry’s house that was originally scheduled to be our after-show destination. In spite of the wet weather it turned out to be a terrific day.

Peter writes:

The weathermen were all wrong as we were planning to attend the MacArthur Airport Car Show in the morning. However as the weather started to change on Saturday we decided that it wasn’t going to be a good day for a car show. We canceled the car show but the BBQ was on rain or shine. This turned out to be a good choice as it rained continuously all day.

The rain doesn’t stop us from enjoying a great day with friends over a BBQ. We had 13 in attendance which included 10 members and 3 family/friends of Larry’s. Larry’s hosting skills kept us busy with appetizers and munchies while he was outside in the rain grilling hamburgers and hot dogs in-between running in and out of the house to prepare beans, sauerkraut and salads.

As we enjoyed our first BBQ of the season we played Diana Ross, The Go-Go’s, and Barbara Streisand 1980′s LP records on the turntable, remember those LP’s? I personally forgot that you have to keep changing the record after about 5 songs!

After we filled ourselves with BBQ Larry brought out the delicious desert that he made along with Lemon Meringue pie and a tray of cookies.

This day just goes to show what this club is all about. Good friends getting together for an afternoon enjoying each others company even if it’s not car related.

We all had a great time and we would like to thank Larry for hosting and donating a significant portion of the costs to the club.

Thanks Larry!!!
